National park Krka

The Krka National Park consists of over 100 square kilometers big area full of lakes and waterfalls, which in the karst landscape of Croatia is amazing. On shaded paths can withstand the intense heat in summer, often dominant and well dedicate them-selves to a leisurely round of the flora and fauna of the reserve. Numerous fish and bird species are indigenous here, and many of them get like that over 800 plant species on the standard lap through the park to face.

Who is less well on foot or on a boat just like to say: April to October are boat tours offered. The name has the same name from the river Krka National Park, despite the fact that only 70 km length, but this next eight waterfalls can have yet another special feature: only 42 of the 70km leads KRKA pure freshwater. The last 28 km KRKA leads the brackish water, because the eastuary is inundate by inflowing seawater. Since this water is not rotting, it offers both freshwater and marine life a living space. The most famous waterfall in the Krka National Park is the Skradinski buk. Case with at least 45m depth view spectacle. Who on a hot day the water would then itself. Directly below the Skradinski buk a corresponding bank area has been reclassified to starnd to use the numerous tourists for a refreshment. The National Park which is open year round, is located about 16km from Sibenik away. A visit to Sibenik offers in connection to the park to visit with the same.

Nationa park Plitvice

The national park is world famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. Currently, 16 lakes can be seen from the surface. These lakes are a result of the confluence of several small rivers and subterranean karst rivers. The lakes are all interconnected and follow the water flow. They are separated by natural dams of travertine, which is deposited by the action of moss, algae, and bacteria. The particularly sensitive travertine barriers are the result of an interplay between water, air and plants.
The encrusted plants and bacteria accumulate on top of each other, forming travertine barriers which grow at the rate of about 1 cm per year. The sixteen lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains, descending from an altitude of 636 to 503 m (2,087 to 1,650 ft) over a distance of some eight km, aligned in a south-north direction. The lakes collectively cover an area of about two square kilometers, with the water exiting from the lowest lake forming the Korana River. The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight. Through different climatic influences and the large difference in elevation within the protected area, a multifaceted flora and fauna has been created. The national park area is home to many endemic species. Those species that prevailed at the lakes before the arrival of man still exist. The Plitvice Lakes national park is heavily forested, mainly with beech, spruce, and fir trees, and features a mixture of Alpine and Mediterranean vegetation. It has a notably wide variety of plant communities, due to its range of microclimates, differing soils and varying levels of altitude. Scientists have so far listed 1,267 different plants out of 109 species that can be found within the area of the national park. 75 plants are endemic, which means that they have first been defined and classified in this area of the world or not far from it. A great number of these plants and species is protected by law. Within the national park area 55 different species of orchids can be found.

National park Paklenica

The most attractive and most valuable parts of South Velebit are surely the impressive canyons of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica. Velika Paklenica canyon is 14 km long and 500-800 m wide. In its narrowest part around the Bunkers, the canyon is only 50 m wide. Vertical cliffs rise above both sides of the canyon up to a height of over 700 m.

The most attractive part is the area around the steep drop of the stream downstream from Anića luka, where steep cliffs rise directly above the stream, forming the narrowest part of the canyon between Anića luka and the parking lot. Mala Paklenica Canyon is of lesser dimension, and the torrent running through it is much less powerful. It is 12 km long and 400-500 wide. In its narrowest part, it is only 10 m wide, while the surrounding cliffs rise up to a height of 650 m. The pass between the Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica Canyons is formed by a very inaccessible karstic area comprising rocks and cliffs. The central part of the Park is distinctive for the relief complex of Borovnik and Crni vrh, with the valley of Mala Močila and Velika Močila nearby. In terms of relief, Velika Močila is a very interesting bowl-shaped valley at an altitude 850 m asl, surrounded by Crni vrh (1 110 m asl), Škiljina kosa (1 015 m asl) and Zeleni brig (842 m asl), while Borovnik, named after the black pine forest, stretches along the south edge. The east part of the Park is very differentiated geomorphologically, inaccessible and wild. Further to the east, this zone of wilderness transforms into an area of milder forms around Malo Libinje and Veliko Libinje, karstic plateaus with numerous pits, the bottoms of which were mostly treated. The highest area of Paklenica National Park is the narrow ridge of Velebit, 1 to 3 km wide. The highest peak of Velebit – Vaganski vrh (1 757 m asl) is also here.

National park Kornaten

Kornati are the most dense group of islands in the whole of the Mediterranean. It is located between the islands of Žirje, Dugi otok and Pašman. The arcipelago is divided into two groups: Lower Kornati consisting of Kornat and surrounding islands and Upper Kornati made of Sit, Žut and surrounding islands. Because of the extraordinary beauty of landscape, the abundance of natural bays and the rich sea flora and fauna, out of 152 of the Kornati islands, 89 of them were declared a national park in 1980.
One of the most impressive natural phenomena on Kornati are cliffs on many islands of the Lower Kornati, facing open sea. The cliffs have always been referred to as "crowns" (corona) and that is  probably where the name of Kornati originates from. The highest cliffs can be found on the island of Klobučar (80m high), Mana (65m) and Rašip veli (64m).The cliffs can reach even up to 100 m under water. Apart from cliffs and the unusual shapes of the islands, another attraction on Kornati are straits Mala and Vela Proversa (the Small and the Great Proversa), located between the islands of Kornat, Katina and Dugi Otok. Mala Proversa is actually a shallow, dug through for sailing even in Roman times. Many archaeological findings can still be seen there, like the remains of buildings and a vivarium from the 1st century A.D.  A very unique thing to be seen is the so-called Vela ploča (the Great Plate) or Magazinova škrila, a 9,100m2 large, even, bear surface of limestone. It is located near Metlina (237m), the highest peak on Kornati. Cruising the Kornati for the first time, you will surely notice hundreds of metres of the so- called "dry walls". Our ancestors built them with their own hands, come rain or shine, in order to keep their land and protect their pasture-ground, i.e. to prevent sheep from crossing from one pasture into the other. On some of the islands the length of these walls reaches up to 70 km, as it does on the island of Kornat. The center of life on these islands used to be around the plain of Tarac, with its Tureta fortress, built around 6 A.D. You can also find the Church of Our Lady of Tarac, the Queen of the Sea, which was built on remains of an early Christian church from the 16th century. The first Sunday in July is the day when the congregation of Murter go on a pilgrimage to Tarac and their votive ship procession is surely one of the most beautiful religious events in Croatia. Although the Kornati islands are not  permanently inhabited, there are a few labourer's and fishermen's houses scattered around quiet, well preserved bays on islands like Žut, Sita, Kornat and the surrounding smaller islands. Nowadays, these houses have been made into restaurants and accommodation for the so-called "robinson tourism" and have become the favourite destination of navigators and other tourists.
